I don’t like leaving things to chance, and I am lazy and like to make it as easy as possible. I have setup database backups via a cron job that run every day and append 0-6 corresponding to the day. There is a script wp-db-backup that does the backup to a dropbox folder and reads the database names from databases.txt. I have a script wp-db-restore that will create the databases and populate it with the current days backup, so you need to have run wp-db-backup on the same day or hard code the number. It is similar in that it reads from the databases.txt file. The wp-hosts-secure that reads from the hosts.txt file and secures all of the sites. Last but not least there is crontab.txt that contains the files that will run at 1:00am each day.
Before you edit your crontab, you will need to edit you .bash_profile and add the editor you want to use, such as nano. It defaults to vim, which will be uncomfortable for a lot of people, so be sure and do it first.
